FAQ
How much produce comes in a share?
Generally, the amount of produce you’ll take home will be similar to what would fit in a brown paper grocery bag. Some weeks (such as when there are melons) may be more. Shares will be picked up market-style (you will fill your own bag or box with a recommended quantity of each type of produce offered that week). If you are a larger household, you can purchase multiple shares. If you purchase two shares, you will get about two grocery-bags full of produce instead of one.
How do I decide how much to pay?
Our sliding scale works best when everyone is as generous as they can be, while honoring their own financial situation. We do not ask for proof of income/assets/expenses, etc. We do not currently have guidelines about how much to pay. Please pay as much as feels possible and generous for you based on your class position and financial situation. We welcome folks to pay whatever is affordable for them, even if that is less than the “market value” ($30-50/week).
What if I won’t be here for every week of pick-up?
For consistency and simplicity, when you register it is for the entire season - 10 pick-ups over 20 weeks. If you are going to miss a pick-up week, we recommend that you ask a friend, neighbor or family member to pick up your share that week and enjoy it for themselves. Whatever is not picked up by the end of the pick-up window will be donated to local mutual aid and food distributions. If you are going to miss more than three pick-ups, we recommend that you consider buying produce from us at the East Side Farmers Market at your convenience. We do not offer refunds or discounts for weeks you cannot pick up.
I have specific access needs. How do I know if the drop site I want will work for me?
We will do our best to accommodate access needs within our capacity. If you have questions about your access needs as they relate to veggie share pick-up, please put them in your registration in the question that asks about this.
East Side Market: The market is easily accessible by busline, and takes place on a flat grassy space. No stairs. Camden neighborhood, North Minneapolis: the drop site is on a neighbor’s porch, which has 5 stairs leading up to it. The home is a few blocks from several public transit lines. Philly Farm: shares will be picked up from a walk-in cooler, at the end of a gravel road which can be accessed by car. The cooler has 2 steps leading up to it.
We encourage share members to bring whatever bag/box/container is easiest for them to carry. We will provide some extra/empty bags and boxes as available.
